Eng 2

You are going to look at four narratives for younger audiences to identify those strategies.
Two of them, Moon bear rescue and The last tree, are from Unit 7.

The authors of these texts use a variety of strategies to engage readers,
inform them about the issue, and persuade readers to accept their ideas.
To engage the reader, authors and illustrators might:
• create characters readers identify with
• create a plot that is interesting
• create beautiful or engaging illustrations
• use descriptive words and language.
To inform the reader, authors and illustrators might:
• use key or technical words and precise vocabulary about the issue
• use bright colours or other visual effects
• use a variety of images
• use simple facts
• use emotional events (to stir readers to take action)
• make connections to readers’ lives to make them think.
To persuade the reader, authors and illustrators might:
• connect readers’ experiences to those of the characters or events
• use a clever combination of words and images to achieve a
particular effect
